Ugly Sweater Party!

I just made these invites for an Ugly Sweater Party.  I am having a small party next month, with a few friends, and everyone is  required to wear the ugliest sweater you can possibly find.  I think it will be fabulous!  I am excited to decorate for this little shindig, and make lots of yummy finger foods.  Now to planning...

DIY His and Hers Glasses Hoop Art

Here is a little DIY I just finished.  His and hers glasses silhouettes, and I attached a chain to the "hers" glasses, which I think turned out so fabulous!  The men's glasses didn't turn out amazing, I think I will try it again and perfect them.  This was simple, you should give it a try!

DIY: Make a ring with Washers and Embroidery Thread

Here we go, another simple tutorial!  This ring is not only easy to make, but it's also inexpensive to make!  And, the variety of colors and sizes of ring that you could make are endless.

Here are the supplies you'll need:
  • Embroidery thread in your choice of color (or thin cotton string, whatever you find should work)
  • "Blank" Ring Base, I got mine from the jewelry making section of my craft store (pictured in the center)
  • Washers in the size of your choice.  You can find them near nails and screws in the store.
  • Embroidery needle (not absolutely necessary, but makes the process easier)
  • Scissors

Start by wrapping your washers with the thread.  It will take some time, but it goes quick once you get started. (Picture 1)  When wrapping the smaller washer, leave a "tail" when finished.  You will use this to secure it to the large washer.

Once your washers are wrapped, attach them, by drawing the string of the smaller washer through the center of the larger washer.  (Make sure to leave the "good" side of the washers facing up.  You don't want to see any knots)  Then, secure in the back of large washer with a small knot or two.  (Pictures 2-4)

Use the thread to secure the wrapped washers to your ring base.  (Picture 5)

That's it!  Easy peasy, right?  I think I will make a few more in different colors, maybe pretty pastels for spring?

What I wore today

Jacket: thrifted, Shirt: Forever21, tank: Walmart, Jeans: Ross, Shoes: Steve Madden, Necklace: Forever21

So, here it is.  After taking these pictures, I can see how not flattering these pants are on me.  But I wear them all the time.  Oh well.  I do love colored jeans, and I plan on buying a green pair that I spotted recently (my husband thinks they are hideous!, but that never stopped me before....).

I have a slurry of projects I am working on, so I'll be busy this week.  I plan on having a booth at the local farmer's market this summer.  I am excited to have my hand made things scattered around homes here in town!  And it's justification for making things, I really don't have much space for more "decor" in my house, but I am always itching to make crafty little things, you know?

Happy Monday!

What I wore today- Going to the Carnival

Skirt: Re-styled from an awful thrifted dress, Shirt: Target, Shoes: "Material Girl" from Macy's
It's true, I am going to the Carnival this evening!  OK, it's at the local elementary school, annnnd I'm pretty sure it's just for the school kids.  But, I am going with my six year old nephew, and he is the best!   He is my little buddy, my partner in crime, and we always have way too much fun together.  So, I'm off to the carnival, hope I win a gold fish!

Songs that "get" me

You know that song?  You know, the one where the whole world around you stops and you are completely absorbed by the sound of the song?  No matter what is going on, you could just, I don't know, cry?  It's dangerous when you think about it, really! I thought I would share some of the songs that have that effect on me.  They are all totally random, but they just get me.
"High and Dry" by Radiohead.  This is my long-time, all-time favorite song.  Not sure what it is, but it gets me every time. Everything is alright in the world when I hear this.

"Loro" by Pinback.

"The Only Living Boy in New York" by Simon and Garfunkel.  Ahhhh, I love this.

"Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran.  I told you these were going to be totally random and out of nowhere guys. I had never actually watched the music video until now.  The 80's were great.  This video is full of slow-mo, aerial views, and singing while gazing out of billowy curtains.  Epic?

"Company Calls Epilogue" by Death Cab for Cutie.  I got to see this one performed live, and I cried.  I cried at a concert.  It was very silly, but I loved it.

"A Day in the Life" The Beatles.  Favorite Beatles song, period.

I'll stop here, before this gets out of hand.  I could go on.  And on.

Love Jenn xoxo
